Ranjan Sinha is an IBM Fellow, Chief Technology Officer for watsonx in IBM Research AI, and Vice President of IEEE Computer Society Bay Area Chapter. He works at the intersection of Research, Product, and Enterprise AI. He is involved in cutting-edge initiatives in Data and AI and is on the front lines of transforming IBM itself into an AI Enterprise by infusing AI into real-world applications and helping IBM's clients navigate their data and AI journeys. From 2016 to 2023, Ranjan developed and managed IBM’s Cognitive Enterprise Data Platform, the strategic data-and-AI backbone that has accelerated the company’s transformation into an AI-driven enterprise. A recognized innovator in data platforms, AI, and large-scale systems, Ranjan has led high-impact projects across industry and academia. He is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology and the Bloomberg Innovator Circle, and was named one of The Wall Street Journal’s Top 12 Asia-Pacific Young Inventors. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers and patents, authored a book, received federal and university research grants. Ranjan is also known for winning data efficiency benchmarks, including JouleSort and PennySort. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, served as a research academic at the University of Melbourne, and is a top alumni honoree of RMIT University, Australia. An active speaker and thought leader, he regularly presents on AI, digital transformation, hybrid cloud, and modern data architectures. He is also committed to digital equity, sustainability, and preparing the workforce for the Fifth Industrial Revolution. Ranjan serves on nonprofit boards and mentors award-winning university projects.
